- The Standards
1.2 Interpretive Communication: Students will interpret a video of a young native girl describing her name, what she wants to be when she grows up, her family members, her favourite food, and favourite activities. Later, students will create a presentational poster pretending to be the native girl when she is older and they describe her likes as a child vs what she wants now.
1.3 Presentational Communication: Students will be able to describe their personality as a child and their personality now separately and presentationally communicate who they were/are with classmates.
2.1 Relating Cultural Practices to Perspectives: Students will be able to identify new vocabulary in real world contexts, conduct short, scripted conversations with their classmates, and write a few sentences connecting their own personal interests in activities to places in the community.
2.2 Relating Cultural Products to Perspectives: Students will be able to identify different places in the community and activities associated with each place. Real world Spanish examples will be analyzed.
3.1 Making Connections: Based on their personal interests, students will be able to ask and answer questions about where they/someone should volunteer in the community.
3.2 Acquiring Information and Diverse Perspectives: Students will prepare for the presentational and interpersonal portions of the IPA by researching where they might want to volunteer based on their interests. Examples will be provided for them. They will use their laptops and fill out worksheets to keep them on track. They will present their choice at the end of class.
4.1 Language Comparisons: Students will use the same questions/answer templates as before but in the context of personality characteristics. Cognates will be examined.
4.2 Cultural Comparisons: Students will be able to ask and answer questions about the needs of different places in a community.
5.1 School and Global Communities:Once they have finished their presentational piece, students will have an interpersonal conversation with me in an attempt to explain why I should fund their project. (IPA)
5.2 Lifelong Learning: Students will fill out a self evaluation worksheet in order to reflect on what they have accomplished and establish what they feel they are not comfortable with yet and what they want to know more about.
